First Steps.

What I didn’t mention in my previous blog about our weekend was…

On Saturday after we spent the day at the zoo, Tom decided that wasn’t enough excitement and charmed us with his massive walking skills.

He has spent the past couple weeks practicing standing up on his own, without holding on to anything. He has been very proud of himself when he does it.

I cheer and clap and he claps for himself.

We’re very into positive reinforcement around here.

So Saturday, Tom and I were playing in the living room and he stood up on his own.

I had already tried getting him to walk to me. Or his daddy. But this time, I pulled out the big guns and said…

“Tom, come and get the elephant!”

His favorite stuffed animal: Elephant.

And that little stinker took a good FOUR steps before collapsing on top of Elephant.

I was SO EXCITED! Seriously. When your child accomplishes something, it is a huge rush. Like a drug.

So of course, becoming quickly addicted to the drug called “my child is walking” I immediately begged him to do it again.

Using Elephant again.

And it worked!!

I ran outside and called Kev in to come and see.

And he walked some more!

And then I called my parents and sister to brag about my AMAZING, WALKING child!

We’ve been practicing every day and every day he’s getting better. Taking more steps. Getting braver.

Only hitting his head on our hardwood floors once. (Ugh.)

So there you have it.

My kid will walk for Elephants.

(Oh, and I have video proof! Although, it’s mainly proof that Tom is a tease at first.)
