Bits: Cabin Weekend.

This weekend we went to FDR State Park in Pine Mountain and stayed in a cabin.

My parents were also there this weekend, in a cabin where the smoke alarm started alerting them to a dying battery at 2:30 a.m. the first night.

Aren’t they lucky?!

Anyway, we made the reservations months ago, so when the forecast told me it was practically going to flood this weekend, I was a bit concerned about what the heck we were going to do.

But I shouldn’t have worried.

I don’t know if you know this, but rain makes puddles.

Know who loves puddles?

This guy!

Yeah, he really, really, really does.

He also loved about a million other things about this weekend. Here’s how it looked…

Thursday night agenda: Lightsaber battle with Grandma. (Obviously.)

Tom threw approximately 179 rocks into the lake during our 3-day weekend. I’m guesstimating.

Tom got cuter.

Friday morning agenda: Discovering moss.

And deciding it needs to be sat on.

Looking at the creek.

Then we headed to Callaway Gardens. Did you know it’s free in January? I didn’t either. But it is, which was beyond awesome for us.

We took Tom to the Butterfly House first. I always loved it when I was a kid and so did Tom. He said “butterflies” about 1,045 times (guesstimating) while we were there. And a side note, we headed back here Saturday too, because when he woke up that morning he asked for “more butterflies?” and I cannot deny him nature.

They also had fish there, which all the men loved.

Tom and PawPaw.

Saturday we headed back to Callaway and The Sibley Center which had a couple of “children’s trails” with little bridges and tables set up along the way. Cuteness!

There is also a children’s garden outside where they have grown the plants/trees/bushes to make a little playhouse basically. I was kind of in love with it. It felt like The Secret Garden! (Oh, Dickon…)

Hiding in the garden.

Saturday night agenda: Use up firewood.

The boys watching Star Wars! So cute.

Showing off his new raincoat.

This is Tom feeding the ducks. Oh, does it look like he’s eating the bread himself? That’s because he is.

Yeah, he eats their bread but is generous enough to throw rocks in their direction. Huck approved of that plan.

We had a wonderful weekend! I began to worry right before we left that I had too much to work on at home and maybe planning this little trip was a bad idea — but that was wrong. This was perfect. I think it was good for all of us to get away and do something together. I loved it so much. The park was pretty empty and there was so much for Tom to do — it couldn’t have been better. I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Hope y’all had a wonderful weekend too! LOVE!

The raincoat and boots couldn’t have been cuter! And I am excited to learn that about Calloway Gardens. I have really wanted to go and take Olivia. Sounds like a wonderful and well deserved break.

It was really fun! He loved all the areas where you could feed the fish and he loved just running around. There is also a wildlife safari type place not too far from Callaway, and we wanted to go but couldn’t because of the weather. But! Lots of my friends and my parents say it’s awesome. Next time!

Oh, I loved all the pictures (and narration). I don’t know who is cuter – Tom or his mommy:)

What a fun get-away for both families.
