Our 8-year-old niece, Delaney, performed with her ballet troupe in a performance of The Nutcracker.
The last time I saw The Nutcracker, I was pregnant with Alice and I thought it would be a fun date night before she arrived.
Except that I basically…fell asleep. Ha! Kevin still mocks me for it.
So I was thrilled to see Delaney, and to take the kids to see it for the first time.
And it was the best! Delaney did a wonderful job, and the kids gasped when they saw her! It was a great performance, totally performed by the kids and some parental volunteers and the music, costumes, and scenery were all magnificent! We LOVED it.
But no one loved it more than Alice.
She adored it.
I am writing this blog in May, and still — at least once a week — she dresses up and has me play Nutcracker music so she can perform for us.
(There are strict rules during her performances — no eating, drinking, looking at a phone, or talking. ALL EYES ON HER AT ALL TIMES!)
But in December, right after we saw Delaney, Alice did this every day.
She performed every day. She tried to emulate the dance movements and facial expressions and it was just so amazing to me all that she picked up.
I hope she really does continue to love it, and I hope to sign her up for a ballet class later this year.
She is the best tiny dancer.
